Physical Education
We want every student to discover the confidence and enjoyment that come from being active.
Physical Education at Hai Sing is not simply about being good at sport. Through a broad range of physical, sporting and outdoor experiences, students develop the skills to move confidently, challenge themselves and discover different ways of staying active that they can carry with them beyond their school years.
Move, Play and Grow
Students learn through movement. As they participate in different physical and sporting activities, they develop the skills, coordination and confidence to take part actively and safely.
But learning in PE goes beyond mastering a technique or playing a game well. Students learn to work with teammates, respond to challenges, make decisions under pressure and persevere when something does not come easily. They experience both competition and cooperation, learning how to strive for their personal best while respecting the abilities and contributions of others.
For students who may not naturally see themselves as 'sporty', the variety of experiences provides opportunities to discover activities they enjoy and ways of being active that work for them.

Learning Beyond the Game
Being physically active is only one part of living well.
Students learn to make informed choices about their own health, developing an understanding of how physical activity, nutrition, sleep, outdoor time and personal hygiene contribute to their overall well-being. The aim is not simply to know what a healthy lifestyle looks like, but to develop habits and attitudes that students can apply in their everyday lives.
Safety and responsibility are also embedded in their experiences. Whether participating in physical activities or learning in outdoor environments, students develop the ability to recognise risks, make sound decisions and take responsibility for the well-being of themselves and those around them.
Stronger Through Challenge
Physical activity gives students opportunities to discover what they are capable of.
They learn that improvement often requires practice, that setbacks are part of progress and that confidence grows through having the courage to try. Through individual and team experiences, students develop resilience, self-discipline, cooperation and responsibility, qualities that extend well beyond the PE lesson.
Just as importantly, students experience the enjoyment that comes from movement: playing alongside friends, mastering a new skill, overcoming a personal challenge or simply experiencing what their bodies are capable of doing.

Active for Life
Ultimately, success in Physical Education is not measured only by how fast a student can run, how well they can play a sport or how many skills they can master while in school.
We want students to leave Hai Sing with something that lasts much longer: the competence and confidence to choose an active life for themselves.
By helping students understand their bodies, make informed decisions about their health, participate safely and responsibly, and discover enjoyment in physical activity, we hope to equip them to make active and healthy living a meaningful part of their lives.
Music Programme
We believe that every student has something musical within them, a sense of rhythm, an ear for sound, a capacity to create, or simply the ability to experience and respond to music.
Our Music programme gives students opportunities to discover and develop these qualities through active participation. Rather than experiencing music only as listeners, students listen, sing, play and create, building their musical knowledge and confidence as they learn to express themselves through sound.
Discovering Music Through Doing
Music is best understood when it is experienced.
Through singing, playing and creating, students explore the building blocks of music and discover how different musical choices can shape what we hear and feel. They learn to listen more closely, experiment with musical ideas and use music to communicate emotions, experiences and ideas of their own.
These experiences allow students with different levels of musical experience to participate and grow. For some, the classroom may deepen an existing passion for music; for others, it may be where they first discover that making music is something they can enjoy and do with confidence.

Music Across Cultures
The music students encounter also takes them beyond any one genre or tradition.
Students experience a wide range of musical genres and styles, including music connected to their own cultural heritage, Singapore's multicultural identity and traditions from the wider world. As they listen to and experience unfamiliar sounds, instruments and musical practices, they begin to appreciate how music can reflect the histories, identities and experiences of different communities.
In this way, learning about music also becomes a way of learning about people and cultures different from our own.
Creating and Connecting Through Music
Music is both personal and shared. Students have opportunities to express their individuality through musical creation while also experiencing what it means to make music with others.
Shared musical experiences require students to listen to one another, communicate, coordinate and contribute towards something larger than their individual part. Through the process, they develop confidence in expressing themselves while learning the importance of collaboration and mutual respect.
Whether they are performing, creating or responding to a piece of music, students learn that there is not always a single 'right' musical response. They are encouraged to explore possibilities, make creative choices and develop their own musical expression.

A Lifelong Relationship with Music
Not every student who enters the Music classroom will become a musician, and that is not our only measure of success.
We hope students leave with the confidence to participate in music, the curiosity to explore unfamiliar musical traditions and the ability to appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship behind what they hear.
For students who wish to pursue music further, these foundations prepare them for continued learning and participation in the arts. For everyone else, we hope to nurture something equally valuable: a lifelong appreciation of music and the joy, connection and meaning it can bring to their lives.
